The Zero Theorem dir. Terry Gilliam
Aktualności

This Weekend At Kino Nowe Horyzonty

21 maja

Each week 'Wrocław Uncut' will be bringing you weekly previews of what's on at the cinema in English.

Movie Of The Week:

The Zero Theorem

This week's movie of choice is Terry Gilliam's latest Sci Fi flick The Zero Theorem.

The film's story centres around a man named Qohen Leth, an unsociable computer addict who's desperate to find a formula to work out the meaning of life. His attempts to solve 'The Zero Theorem' don't quite go to plan however, with a major detraction put in his way in the shape of Bainsley, a seductive women who unexpectedly arrives a on the scene.

Mundial. Gra o wszystko

Mundial. Gra o wszystko is a documentary not only focused on Poland's great 1982 World Cup team, but also what was going on back home at the time, when martial law, censorship, military on the streets and political imprisonment were all part of everyday life.

Foreign Language Films (Without English Subtitles):

Kerron sinulle kaiken

This week's featured foreign language release is Kerron sinulle kaiken, a Finnish film that won last year's Nordic Council Film Prize. The movie's central character is a woman born in man's body who chooses to change identity after sex reassignment surgery. To get a bigger picture on the film, click here.

New French Cinema (Without English Subtitles):

New French Films, the biggest review of recent French cinema in Poland, will be held in Wrocław from the 23rd until the 29th of May. This year's programme, prepared by Gutek Film and the French Institute, consists of eight carefully selected feature films and one animated title. All have been meticulously chosen from popular festivals around the globe and will be making their premieres here in Poland as part of the event.

The festival opens with the latest time-travel comedy from actress and director Noémie Lvovsky - Camille redaouble, which tells the story of woman who goes in search her lost youth. The film was selected for the Prix SACD at 2102's Cannes Festival due to its universal story of love and regret that routinely charmed audiences.

There will also be two biopics in the series of French screenings, one of which stars Pierre Niney. Simply named Yves Saint Laurent, the film is directed by French actor-turned-director Jail Lespert and traces the life of Laurent to show his great talent when he took over from his mentor, Christin Dior, at the tender age of 21.

Another remarkable film, often compared with the hit Untouchables, comes delivered by director-star Danny Boon. Titled Supercondriaque , the film centres around a 40-year-old single man who works as a photographer for an online medical dictionary, which in turns sparks him to excessively worry over the state of his health.

The sole animated title in the programme, Moon Man, is said to contain touches of A Cat in Paris and the films of Sylvain Chomet (e.g. The Illusionist,The Triplets of Belleville). Based on the popular book by Tomi Ungerer, the film is bound to delight all ages.
